BM4841: 484-1 Nakamura AXIS
The Nakamura is a beautiful gentleman's tactical folder. At just under four inches closed, it is very comfortable in the pocket. The CPM-S90V stainless steel coupled with AXIS lock functionality and carbon fiber handles with stainless liners, makes this a top US made folder in our book! A unique tool steel, CPM-S90V is a martensitic stainless steel to which vanadium and carbon have been added for superior wear resistance. CPM-S90V offers substantial improvements in wear resistance over 440C, D2 and other high chromium steels, with corrosion resistance equal to or better than 440C. The contoured carbon fiber handles are a contemporary, premium composite of thin strands of carbon tightly woven into various weave patterns, then set in resin, which is most commonly clear but can be color tinted. It offers great looks and is exceptionally strong for its minimal weight. The 484-1 Nakamura AXIS by Benchmade Knives brings the best of both worlds: detailed design and functional strength.

Pros: Lock Type, Handle Material, Blade Sharpness, Blade Material, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Overall Quality
Cons: Pocket Clip, None
Awesome knife!
This has to be by far the best feeling knife to hold in your hand. Everything from the finger cutouts in the handle, to the jimped thumb ramp, and even very naturally comfortable to put your thumb on top of the blade past the jimped ramp. Slightly loosening the pivot screw allows the blade to swing freely, which makes for very easy opening and closing by pulling back on the AXIS lock. Also, it makes it easy to flick your wrist and open the blade WITHOUT touching the AXIS lock, both in standard holding position, as well as underhanded. In either case, the blade opens as fast or faster than an assist or automatic. No issues with the pivot screw loosening so far. The only "con" (because I felt I needed to pick on something) is the pocket clip, which is very strong. This is an issue, IMHO, on all Benchmade knives. I always bend them up a little bit so they barely touch the knife. This prevents the clip from eating a hole in your pants over time, and makes for easier deployment. But, finding something wrong with this knife is a stretch Finally, the obvious - S90V!! Carbon fiber!! Blue anodized accents!! This is definitely a #1 EDC knife.

Pros: Blade Material, Handle Feel, Overall Quality, Handle Material, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Pocket Clip, Ease of Opening, None
This is my first Benchmade product, and the quality of workmanship is better than any other semi-custom knife I own. The blade came shaving sharp, the Axis Lock performs flawlessly allowing one handed closure. The carbon fiber scales not only look great, but help in reducing weight as well, and the blue anodized hardware really pops against the black CF. I think the pocket clip is okay, but could have been a little better. It is very stiff and I had to bend it upwards just a touch to make pocket entry / exit a little smoother or easier. Their is one small annoyance I have found with this knife that I'm not sure how you'd correct ? Sometimes when pulling it out of my pocket, the thumb stud catches on the inside of my jeans pocket, and partially deploys the blade.....have already cut myself a couple of times.....BUT.....this is still my favorite EDC knife to date. I would buy it again for sure.....maybe add the 464 model with the wooden handles to my collection. ;-)
